Roche Harbor, San Juan Island

There are two harbors on San Juan Island. Roche Harbor is less busy and smaller, but still beautiful and worth a visit. Here are a few things you don’t want to miss in Roche Harbor.

Roche Harbor is quite a bit smaller than Friday Harbor. There are two restaurants and only two shops.

Roche Harbor is not as crowded.

Hotel De Haro is a historic hotel and is gorgeous. Take a stroll through the gardens.

Check out the little gift shop inside the Haro Hotel. It has some really cute souvenirs (actually worth buying). There is also a kitchenware shop inside Quarryman Hall.

Eat at Madrona Bar & Grill. The views are great but the food was fantastic! I ate the Dungenes Crab & Artichoke Quesadillas (sounds crazy but really good) and Travis got the clam chowder which was equally delicious. We also grabbed a Pig War Martini. It was very sweet (my kind of drink) and came with a tiny souvenir pig.

Take a kayak tour with San Juan Outfitters. We did the 3 hour family kayak tour out of Roche Harbor and had a blast! We kayaked over to Posey Island State Park and around Henry and Pearl Island.

Talk a walk around the San Juan Islands Sculpture Park. This park is actually spread over 20 acres with more than 150 pieces of art to admire. Some of them are even available to purchase. Entry is FREE but donations are appreciated.

Hike to the Mausoleum. This gorgeous stone memorial has a round table and chairs in the middle made to look like King Arthur’s round table. It may look small in the photos but this is about twenty feet tall. It is really cool to see and worth the mile walk (very easy).
