Cattle Point, San Juan Island

Cattle Point is located on the southern most point of San Juan Island. There are trails, a lighthouse, and a gorgeous view that is a must see on your trip to the island.

The first thing we explored at Cattle Point was the lighthouse. However, I actually suggest starting at the Interpretive Center. One thing about parking at the interpretive center is that you will need a Discover Pass since it is a state park. Discover Pass is $10/day or $30/year.
For more info about the Discover Pass, click HERE.

If you just want to drive up and see the view and don’t plan on staying long, you can use this parking space which allows you to park for fifteen minutes without a Discover Pass.

I suggest parking here and walking the trail around the coast to the right down to the lighthouse. That offers the prettiest view around the coastline. We did not do that trail, we actually ended up just parking by the lighthouse and parking by the interpretive center and driving between the two. The trail is the Cattle Point Trail and is only 0.6 mile. Find it HERE.

The interpretive center usually has State Park rangers there presenting wildlife and answering questions but we visited during coronavirus craziness and so it was closed (just an empty building).

The views at Cattle Point are incredible. There is a beach here you can walk down to.

There are also some picnic tables here so you can bring a lunch and enjoy this gorgeous view.

The lighthouse is just around the bend. If you’d rather drive there is street parking just down the road with a path down to the lighthouse. (you’ll be able to see it from the road).

The lighthouse is a more old fashioned style, but still really cool to see.

The lookout area in front of the lighthouse is a great spot to look for seals.

We hiked down to the rocky shore. There were some super dark rocks that reminded me of Hawaii. The on the other side there were grey and orange rocks. Really unique to see.
