Visiting the Churchill War Rooms

If you are into History, especially the History of WWII, then the Churchill War Rooms are a must see during your visit to London. The Churchill War Rooms are part of the Imperial War Museums in London. Here is what to expect during your visit, and how long you should plan.

Tickets for the Churchill War Rooms can be purchased online before your visit. I highly recommend this because people with pre-purchased tickets have a much shorter entry line than those without. The War Rooms are within walking distance to Westminster Abbey and the Parliament Building so you can plan to do these all together for a nice day out. I will say I think this museum is better for older kids, Aurora is ten and was bored pretty quickly. The War Rooms are dark and there is not really anything interactive throughout the exhibit. As an adult it was really cool to see where these war decisions were made, but it is not on my London Top Ten List.

These rooms were built below ground to avoid the bombs dropped on London during WWII. Everyone down here could work, eat, and sleep down here.

There is also an exhibit about Winston Churchill from birth to death; about his life, being Prime Minister, and his role in WWII.

There is a cafe at about the half way point that has coffee, tea, pastries and ice cream. It was a nice break.

I do also want to point out that if you are not a fan of small spaces, or crowded areas then this museum is not for you. The hallways are very narrow and it got crowded in front of each window looking in.
