Things to do in Roswell, New Mexico

If you are an alien then you most likely arrived here on earth when your UFO crashed in Roswell in 1947. If you’re headed back to visit or to fix up your ship so you can finally go home, I’ve got some recommendations on things to do in the area.

UFO Museum
Obviously you’ll want to visit the UFO Museum. It’s got everything you need to know about the crash and even has some life size alien statues. The museum is open every day from 9 am to 5 pm except major holidays. Admission is $5 for adults, $3 for military and children over four years old.

Bottomless Lakes State Park
A bit outside of the city, Bottomless Lakes State Park is worth a visit, especially if it’s swimming weather. Bottomless Lakes is a gorgeous sight when you’re in the middle of the desert. You only pay $5 per vehicle to enter the park. There is a sectioned off area for swimming by the beach but you can swim outside of that area too. Kayaking and paddle boarding are also an option and they have rentals available. You can camp overnight and there are RV hook ups available. The ground is rocky so I highly suggest bringing water shoes. This area is the largest deposit of gypsum salt in the U.S. so make sure to check it out on the rocks and under the water. There are also hiking trails around the rocks and through the hill.

Anderson Museum of Contemporary Art
I’m a huge art fan and I find contemporary works very unique and interesting. There are some really cool pieces here to see and it is a good sized museum. Anderson Museum is open Monday through Friday 9 am to 4pm and Saturday/Sunday 1-5 pm. This museum is FREE but donations are welcome.

Spring River Park & Zoo
Another free activity is the zoo! The zoo is small but still a fun place to visit. It is open daily 9 am to 5 pm except Tuesdays (closed). There is a large playground area and plenty of park space to play in after.

Roswell Museum & Art Center
This art center is huge and takes a while to go through if you’re taking it all in. I liked the watercolor area in particular because they had a station for kids to sketch and paint. It is open Tuesday through Saturday, 9 am to 5 pm and Sunday 1-5 pm. Admission here is also free.

McDonalds
I know what you’re thinking, why am I putting McDonalds on this list? Well, this is the only McDonalds in the world that is shaped like a UFO. So it’s at least worth a drive by.
