Cannon Air Force Base,  New Mexico

Surviving Cannon Air Force Base one Coffee Shop at a time

Coffee is life, and I’m filling you in on the local coffee shops to keep your sanity during your time at Cannon. While Clovis lacks options for shopping, it actually has an abundance of coffee shops. Our squadron wives meet every Wednesday morning for coffee and we alternate shops so I have been to all of these!

Blackwater Coffee Co

Really fitting for the area, the name “Blackwater” is a trend in Clovis. There is an archaeological site nearby where mammoth bones were discovered and is named “Blackwater Draw”. Also not a coincidence, you are not suppose to drink the tap water here. It’s not black but it may as well be with all the fluoride and contaminates in it. Anyways…back to the coffee shop. Blackwater is my favorite, not just because of the coffee but the atmosphere. It’s got a great area to hang out, plenty of seating, lots of plugs for your devices, and of course free WiFi. I’m actually sitting at Blackwater as I type this. They are open Monday through Friday, 7 am to 6 pm and Saturday 7 am to 3 pm.

My favorite is their hot coffee, served in really cute campfire mugs. You can purchase the mugs and other merchandise inside. Breakfast and lunch sandwiches are delicious! Follow them on Facebook or Instagram to see the seasonal drinks. My favorites were the s’mores latte (fall) and the birthday cake latte (summer). I also love their spritzers. I get the Orange spritzer with vanilla creamer so it tastes like orange cream sickle. They have a rewards system so you earn points for each purchase and after 20 points you’ll get a free item. If you register with them you’ll also get a $5 birthday reward. Blackwater also offers a military discount. They often have free events as well.

Coffee Bistro

Coffee Bistro is located next to Traci’s Greenhouse on 60/84. Their coffee is okay but what I really love is the food. They have a large menu with lots of options to choose from for breakfast and lunch. The omelette are to die for and the breakfast burritos are pretty good too. Coffee Bistro is open Monday through Saturday, 7 am to 6 pm and Sunday 7 am to 4 pm. They have a stamp card so after 10 drinks you get the next free! They also offer a military discount. I will warn you, multiple occasions I have had my coffee be so hot it burnt my lips and tongue. Like bad. At least three times I had this happen and I told the cashier once. Just be careful when drinking!

Rock N Roll Coffee Factory

One of the newest Coffee shops in town, the Rock N Roll Coffee Factory is located inside the Red Arrow bingo on 21st. They have a drive through if you’re in a hurry and they also have heated outdoor seating if it’s a nice day. They are open Monday through Friday, 6 am to 7 pm, Saturday 7 am to 7 pm and Sunday, 7 am to 2 pm. The inside is really cool and unlike anything else I’ve seen. It’s rock n roll theme and has guitar seats, old time booths, and drums for tables. You’ll also find rock music videos playing so it’s not the quietest. It’s worth checking out!

Java Loft

This place is HUGE. Tons of seating and they are open late so it’s a good place to get some work or studying done. Java Loft has multiple rooms and areas of seating you can rent out for events. They also have vendor events at least three times a year. My favorite are the cinnamon rolls and blended coffees. Java Loft is open Monday through Saturday, 6 am to 9 pm (10 pm Friday and Saturday) and Sunday 6:30 am to 9 pm. There is also a drive through if you’re in a hurry!

Starbucks

I am a Starbucks girl through and through. If you give me a choice, my favorite is always Starbucks! I mean, I was a Frappuccino for Halloween….more than once. There are two Starbucks located in Clovis, one inside Albertsons and one at the BX on Cannon. They are both small and unfortunately they are not corporate Starbucks. You can earn your stars rewards but you cannot redeem them. No birthday rewards either, sad day.
