Iolani Palace
Iolani Palace is a beautiful palace located in the heart of the city of Honolulu. The Hawaiian Monarchy once lived on these grounds and the palace is full of their history. It is a unique stop on your trip and only takes a short amount of time.

Iolani Palace is a unique stop for your trip to Oahu. It is where the Hawaiian monarchs lived before the Hawaiian islands were obtained by the U.S. Much of the palace is in original condition or has been restored to its original glory over the years. You can take a docent led tour or a self guided audio tour. We took the docent led tour for $20-27 per adult and $0-6 per child. Tours are under an hour in length and include admission to the galleries of Hawaiian Monarch memorabilia below the palace.
If you are doing a docent led tour then you will check in at the barracks across from the Palace. There are restrooms and a small giftshop here.
Before entering the palace you will have to put on these lovely shoe socks for your tour.
There will be lots of staff watching so make sure to stay inside the roped area. Pretty much everything in the palace is NOT to be touched. No flash photography or video recording is permitted inside the palace.
Much of the furniture is from the same time period but NOT the same furniture that was in the palace. They are still trying to locate and recover many of the artifacts that were originally from the palace.

I absolutely loved seeing the Queen’s ball gowns inside the palace. Unfortunately they are replicas, not original but they look exact.
You can read more about Queen Liliuokalani HERE.
Oh, how times have changed (for the better).
I wont give you the history of the palace or the Hawaiian Monarchs in my article because you should go do the tour and hear about it where it actually happened.
You can read the history on Iolani Palace’s website HERE.
After your tour you will have the option to go down and browse the museum galleries below the Palace. You can spend as much (or as little) time here as you want.
The Queen’s jewels were absolutely amazing. The necklace below is a 13.8 carat diamond.
