Hiking: Washington & Oregon,  Washington

Getaway House

Imagine a place you can go to unwind, escape your current worries, and take the time to get away. No cell service, no internet, no TV. You can spend time with family, explore the great outdoors, and relax. This place is real, and its called the Getaway House.

Our stay at the Getaway House was complimentary. All opinions and thoughts in this post are my own.

Getaway House has multiple locations throughout the United States. We stayed at the Portland Getaway, located in Glenwood, Washington close to Mount Adams. One thing to know is that the locations really don’t have cell service. There is no WiFi, internet or TV in the cabin. Rest assured though, there is a landline phone for emergencies. Also, I have a discount code for your stay at the end of this post!

The Portland Getaway House is in a really unique location. Living in Washington we had never traveled to this part of the state before and we really liked the area. Yes, you are in the middle of nowhere. You’ll pass through the Conboy Lake National Wildlife Refuge on the way to the cabin. We spotted several herds of Elk here. You have a gorgeous view of Mount Adams from Glenwood. The Gifford-Pinchot National Forest is also nearby with lots of hiking trails. You can also check out the Columbia River and smaller rivers closer. Check out my other posts for things we did on our trip to the Portland Getaway House and during our stay:
Driving the Columbia River Gorge
Sleeping Beauty Trail
Horsethief Butte Trail
Maryhill Stonehenge

The Getaway House has all of the amenities you’ll need for your “glamping” trip as I like to call it. Mini fridge (no freezer), two burner stove (no oven), pots/pans, plates/cups/utensils, knives, scissors, can opener/bottle opener, olive oil, salt and pepper, etc. Every cabin has an indoor table, outdoor picnic table, fire pit with grill and Adirondack chairs. They also have food items, firewood, and charcoal available in case you forgot something (available for purchase). My favorite feature that you normally wouldn’t have camping is your own toilet and shower in the cabin. Oh, and air conditioning/heat!

Did I mention Getaway House is pet friendly? It was funny how much Muffin loved the big windows. He would just sit and watch outside. We saw deer several times within ten feet of our cabin.

Our cabin was really clean and the check-in and check-out process was a breeze. On your check in day you’ll get an email with a door code to access your cabin. You will use this code throughout your stay. Make sure you pull up direction before you loose cell service though…If you’re staying at the Portland Getaway House, service is spotty once you get off the main highway. The last place you’ll have service is the town of BZ Corner. This is where we drove to to pull up directions to the trail we hiked in the Gifford-Pinchot National Forest (its on the way anyways).

Our cabin had a little trail off to the side in the woods we were surrounded by. The outpost area made for a great walk also. My favorite part of camping is smore’s but unfortunately we were under a burn ban when we visited so no wood fires. You do have the option of charcoal or bringing your own propane grill for fires though. If the area you’re staying has a burn ban, they will notify you before your stay.

The Portland Getaway House is located in Glenwood, WA. The town of Glenwood has two convenience stores, a gas station, and two food places. The general store has groceries, camping supplies, alcohol, and a small cafe where you can order food. There is another grocery type store across the street that has a restaurant attached to it. There is also a small burger joint inside the old gas station. Important to note however, that the restaurants are only open on the weekends (which is why we didn’t get to check them out).
