What to Know about Traveling to Hawaii in 2021

Traveling to Hawaii right now can be a bit complicated. Here is some info you need to know about precautions that Hawaii is taking to enable visitors to the island right now. I wont lie it is pretty stressful but the islands are worth it.

Hawaii Safe Travels
Regardless of being vaccinated, every traveler has to be tested for COVID-19 and provide a negative test result within 72 hours of your flight to the islands of Hawaii (unless you want to quarantine for 10 days upon arrival). The test must be taken within 72 hours of the last leg of your flight, specifically. Here’s where it gets complicated….you can only take an “approved” test from an “approved” location.

First Step: Create an Account
First thing you’ll need to do is create an account on the Safe Travels website. You will need quite a bit of info including your airline numbers/times and your hotel address. You will also have to input your driver’s license info. Each traveler 18+ will have to create their own account. Only one parent needs to register children that are traveling. If you are island hopping, I recommend going to an outer island FIRST. If you travel to Oahu then island hop, you will have to re-take a COVID test and do the entire process all over again to travel. However if you travel to an outer lying island first, you do not need to re-test before flying to Oahu.

Step 2: Decide Where to do your Test
You can only take a COVID test from an “approved” testing partner. You can find the full list HERE. If you are traveling with children pay attention to which places offer tests for kids. We personally did Vault Health and had a great experience. Vault Health offers an at home, mail in testing kit. Instead of in your nose, this is a spit in a tube test. Depending on your travel date it may or may not work for you, so check out their website for more info.

Step 3: Order/Schedule your Test
Depending where you decide to take your test you will need to schedule an appointment to take your test or order your mail in test ASAP.

Step 4: Take your Test & Upload Results
Once you take your test, keep an eye out for your test results. Once you have them, you can BREATHE! You will need to upload your negative test result into your Safe Travels account. Print out your negative test results and take them with you just in case.

Step 5: Fill out Health Questionnaire
Within 24 hours of your flight you will login to your Safe travels account and be prompted to fill out the “Health Questionnaire”. Once filled out and your test results are in, you will be sent a QR code to your email. Print out your QR code and have it with you.
