What to do in Lubbock, Texas
You have probably heard of Lubbock because it is home to Texas Tech University. If you’re driving cross country on I-10 you will pass through this city in the middle of nowhere. I’ve got a few must-do’s for the area to fill you in on, besides the obvious of what I do (shopping).
Prairie Dog Town at Mackenzie Park
Here’s something fun to do that you normally wouldn’t consider, go feed some prairie dogs! We don’t have them in the southeast where I’m from so we think they are adorable. Bring some lettuce or carrots and they will come pretty close to you. There is a brick wall closing in their habitat but they come very close and the wall is only about knee high.

Science Spectrum Museum & Omni Theater
If you have kids, this museum is a must. It’s got three stories of fun filled, hands on exhibits. There is an aquarium on one of the floors where you can see wildlife that is local to the area. Each day they have an animal show where they’ll bring out animals to let the kids see, hold, and pet.
There is also an entire area dedicated to those kiddos 5 and under. Play grocery store, vet clinic, weather station, the whole nine yards. They also have an area dedicated to traveling exhibits. We have visited a butterfly habitat, a dinosaur museum, and saw a show by one of the finalists on Americas Got Talent. Don’t forget about the IMAX theater, which has documentaries of wildlife and the planet.
The Science Spectrum is open Monday through Friday, 10 am to 5 pm, Saturday 10 am to 6 pm and Sunday 1-5 pm. Entry prices are $8 per adult and $6.50 for kid size for the museum only. You can add the OMNI theater and/or the special exhibit on. They do offer a military discount.

Llano Estacado Winery
There is no shortage of wineries in Lubbock, there are a few to choose from. This winery is a big facility with a brand new tasting room. They offer complimentary tours where they show you the wine making process through the cellars. They have special events with vendors a few times a year. We visited during the Clay Festival but there are also events like the Chocolate Festival where they have vendors, live music, and food.

Altitude Trampoline Park
There is actually more than one “bounce place” for the kids to get out their energy. Altitude is located behind the Target on Marsha Sharon Freeway which is usually where I am. So send Dad with the kids to jump while you shop. They have toddler time for the younger kids as well.

Lubbock Water Rampage
Summer is HOT in Texas. If you need to cool off head to the water park. They are open seasonally May to August each year. It’s smaller that what you’d fine elsewhere but it’s still a good time!
Find their website here.
Shopping & Restaurants
There is no shortage of shops and restaurants in Lubbock. Shopping is usually the reason I’m in the area. The South Plains Mall on Slide Road is a decent size and has all the usual mall stores. Anchor stores include Dillard’s, JCPenney, and Sears. Here you will also find a brand new Cheesecake Factory in the parking lot of the mall. We usually drop off Muffin at daycare at Petco just down the street. My favorite shopping center is on Marsha Sharp Freeway. It’s got Target, Sams Club, Kirklands, Ulta, Starbucks, and more. West End shopping center is about ten minutes away and has Cabelas, Costco, Chick fil a, Marshalls, Homegoods, Nike, Charming Charlie’s, Panera, and a brand new PF Changs. Bed, Bath, and Beyond a small well as World Market have also relocated here. A brand new Vera Bradley store will be opening soon here too.
Finding the fun everywhere life takes us!
