What to do in Leavenworth

Leavenworth has become one of my favorite little towns in Washington. This Bavarian themed village is set at the base of the Cascade mountains so it really looks like you’re in Switzerland. Its filled with cute local shops and restaurants, and has the Wenatchee River running through it. Here are some fun things to do and see during your stay in Leavenworth.

Shopping
There are a ton of cute shops in Leavenworth. These are all up and down the main street. You can find many things like Bavarian goods, touristy tees, outdoor goods, boutique clothing, home decor, and more. A few of our favorites were:
Magenta Boutique
Leavenworth Shirt Company
The Bubblery
Der Sportsman

Nutcracker Museum
Here is something fun and unique to do, check out the nutcracker museum! You can learn about the very first types of Nutcrackers and see over 6,000 different kinds. Entry is around $5/person.

Grab some Local Fare
I ‘ll be honest I wasn’t sure I would like German food (besides the pretzels of course) but I had some of the most delicious meals! Check out all of my favorite spots to grab meals, snacks, and coffee in my post:

Take a walk around Blackbird Island
Blackbird Island is down by the river and offers a gorgeous view! Many people walk or bicycle around the island, approximately a 2 mile trail. There is a bridge that offers a great spot to jump in the water.

Tube down the Wenatchee River
If you visit in the summer, check out tubing and rafting on the Wenatchee river! We did the hour tubing with Leavenworth Outdoor Center. They also have a two hour option. Prices were around $20/person and dogs are welcome. Whitewater rafting trips are also available.

Visit the Leavenworth Reindeer Farm
I saved the best for last, this was absolutely our favorite activity in Leavenworth. Where else can you go meet and feed reindeer?! This activity actually got it’s own blog post.

If you’re looking for somewhere to stay, there are a ton of cute hotels. We went last minute and decided on the Howard Johnson. They were cheap, dog friendly, had a pool, and free breakfast/WiFi. It also had a kitchenette in case you wanted to cook in the room. Nothing special but it was fine for one night, we don’t mind cheap!
