What to Do and See on Camano Island

Camano Island is one of the smaller islands in Washington, located between the coast and Whidbey Island. You don’t have to take a ferry to Camano Island so that saves money! Here are some fun things to do and see during your visit.

Keep in mind, Camano Island is pretty small. There is not a ton to do and not a lot of activities, but its a great place to relax and getaway. Camano Island is a cheaper alternative to some of the other islands in Washington.

Take a Stroll through Stanwood
Okay, I know it isn’t on Camano, but you have to drive through Stanwood, WA to get to Camano Island and they have a pretty cute downtown area. Take a stroll through the shops downtown and grab a cup of coffee from Hometown Brew.

Some of my favorite shops were:
Doilies to Doorknobs
Ladders Clothing & Co
The Picnic Pantry

Before heading on to Camano we grabbed a cup of coffee from Hometown Brew, so good! I got a pumpkin marshmallow latte.

Grab some lunch & shop at Camano Commons
This really cute shopping center is new! Its got a few restaurants to choose from, the Marketplace shop, and a bakery/coffee shop. They have some cute Camano Island souvenir type gifts and locally handmade items. There is also a large grassy field for the kiddos to run around and play.

The Commons also has a few really cute photo ops. This mural is by the Brewery and the backdrops are by the Marketplace.

Visit Freedom Park
This park has sculptures, a huge playground, an art gallery, picnic tables, and more. The art gallery is only open on weekends.

Shop & Browse The Spare Room
This shop is a farmhouse lover’s dream. It’s filled with antiques, clothing, jewelry, home decor, and so much more.

Go Exploring at Cama Beach State Park
This is one of the state parks on the island and offers waterfront cabins, camping, hiking, a beach, an extension location of Center for Wooden Boats, and has a restaurant! This is a state park so you will need a Discover Pass. It is $10/day or $30/year. You can learn more and purchase one online HERE. (there are also pay stations available in the park).

We decided to grab lunch at Cama Beach Cafe then walk down the beach.

Cama Beach Cafe had a great atmosphere. You have a great view of the park from the windows and the food was actually really good.

I ordered the quiche with soup of the day, Mom got a salad, and Aurora ordered the kids Swedish pancakes. We ate it up!

After lunch we walked down to the beach and took a stroll. It was low tide so Aurora enjoyed picking up rocks and playing with the hiding crabs beneath.

These waterfront cabins are available to rent on the park’s website. The prices are reasonable and some of them are pet friendly! View more info on the website HERE.

There is a Center for Wooden Boats located here but it is only open seasonally. You can rent boats here and they offer educational programs for kids.

Visit the Matske Gallery & Sculpture Garden
Open on the weekends, the art gallery offers quite a few pieces of work to browse (these are available to purchase) and the sculptures are located throughout the property.

Hike Iverson Spit Preserve
Last but certainly not least, my favorite was our hike in the Iverness Spit Preserve. The views are beautiful and this is a prime spot for bird watching. It was a little muddy when we went. There is beach access on this trail. Read the full details of the trail and more photos in my post:
