Thornewood Castle
Thornewood Castle is a gorgeous private estate located in Lakewood, Washington that offers a garden, large grounds, and a beautiful European gothic home. I’ll explain the two ways you can gain access to the castle, as it is not open to the public.
Thornewood Castle
This gorgeous house was one of the first in Tacoma, and was built by one of the gentlemen that started the Port of Tacoma. It has been sold many times over the years and the current owners do not allow for public access. There are two ways to get access to this beautiful estate: book a room for an overnight stay or get invited to an event being held on the grounds. The castle is an event venur so many people host thier weddings at the estate.

I was lucky enough to be invited to a luncheon at the Castle. It took my breath away as soon as we drove up. I love European architecture and this castle reminded me so much of France.
To the elft of the house is a sunken garden picturesque and full of fountains, flowers, and gates.
The giant lion head door knobs are something else. Take a look at the gorgeous chandelier in the entryway too.
The house is filled with fine wood, on the walls and the floor, even the cieling. Though none of the furniture is original, they have done a great job at decorating the house in the same time period.
The house is also filled with some gorgeous and intricate stained glass designs.
Out the back of the house is a gorgeous view of the lake with a willow tree and plenty of yard space. There is also a giant stone chess set. It reminded me of the Wizards Chess scene in Harry Potter.
As I mentioned previously I was invited to attend a luncheon here at the castle. They had the room set up for us for dining and catered the event as well. The food was delicious.

The only other way to gain entry to the castle is by staying here overnight. There are a quite few rooms to choose from and prices start at $255 per night. View more info on staying at the castle HERE.
Before you decide to stay at the castle, you should know that it is said to be haunted. I read a few interesting ghost stories about the castle HERE.
The library was one of my favorite rooms. They have the books color coordinating.
I also loved the hall of mirrors. It reminded me of the Palace of Versailles.
Finding the fun everwyhere life takes us!
