Seattle Japanese Garden

The Seattle Japanese garden is located on the grounds of the Washington Arboretum. The garden itself is small but is full of native Japanese plants and pretty ponds. We visited during the Maple festival so the trees were particularly colorful. Here are some things to know before you go.

The gardens are open Tuesday through Sunday with hours changing seasonally. Parking is free. Tickets range from $4-8 and ages 5 and under are free. Unlike some other gardens, the Japanese garden does not allow picnics, tripods, or pets. Currently, guided tours and tea ceremonies are suspended due to COVID.

The leaves were absolutely stunning when we visited in October. The reds an oranges were so vibrant they almost looked painted.

I would only plan for about 45 minutes to an hour in the garden. We combined it with walking through the Washington Park Arboretum and lunch in the city.
