Raising Ladybugs
Did you know that ladybugs go through a cocoon type stage really similar to butterflies? We recently raised ladybugs at home. We have done two different experiments with Insect Lore. We did the butterfly kit a few years ago and decided to check out the Ladybug Kit this year. This is a great long lasting experiment to keep the kids interested long term!

The Ladybug Land is under $30 on Amazon. Click the small photo above to view and shop. Everything you need is included in the kit! You’ll get the live ladybug larvae, habitat, and water dropper. The only other thing you will need to purchase are raisins.
I had no idea that ladybugs don’t always look like ladybugs! They go through stages much like butterflies do. Larva, pupae, then ladybug. They make little cocoon type things.
The top of the habitat is actually a magnifying glass so you can see closer. It comes with all the instructions and the whole process takes about six weeks.
All you have to do during the process is water them every other day, and feed them raisins after they emerge as ladybugs. But like I mentioned, the kit has all the instructions you need!
Once the ladybugs have hatched you can let them go!
