Pike Place Market Bucket List

I’m pretty sure Pike Place Market is listed as the most popular place to visit on the travel websites, and we visited three times in one weekend! There is so much to see (and taste) in the market. There is quite a bit of history around it too. Here are some things you must do when you visit.

Watch a fish being thrown at Pike Place Fish Co.
This is also listed on the travel websites, and there’s a reason. Who doesn’t want to see a ten pound fish being thrown across the counter? They’ve got a rhythm and a chant that they do when they make a sale and throw a fish. Don’t forget, there are all kinds of seafood and if you’re visiting by plane, they can wrap it up for you. They also offer shipping for all of the products.

Grab a bouquet of flowers, for only $5-20!
You won’t believe the selection of huge, gorgeous, Washington grown flowers all over the market.

Visit the germiest place in the U.S., the gum wall.
Here’s some fun facts!
Super, super gross. Go down the stairs on the left side of the market and you’ll walk right into the gum wall. Although it’s more like a gum alley because it’s on both sides and all over. If you’ve got kids it’s a lot of “back up!” and “don’t touch!”. It’s a sight to see and a way to “stick” a lasting mark on Seattle. They actually have to scrape the gum off of the walls six times per year because it gets so heavy on the buildings.

Pet the Pig.
The piggy bank pig is said to bring good luck to those that pet his nose. He actually brings in around twelve thousand a year in U.S. and foreign currency.

Visit the very first Starbucks Cafe.
Um hello, you are in Seattle! So Starbucks is obviously a must. While it wasn’t the first Starbucks store, this is the sight of the very first Starbucks Cafe. They have exclusive Pike Place merchandise and of course coffee.

Its a Market, so you can find just about every fruit and vegetable you can think of. Maybe even some that you didn’t know existed. Jellies, baked goods, fresh pasta, vendors with local art and merchandise, there is no shortage of things in the market. Don’t forget about the huge variety of fresh seafood!

There are even tons of restaurants inside the market. Not just quick places but also sit down and eat places! Obviously there are a ton to choose from and most have amazing views.

Also, don’t forget that the market spans a couple floors and inside/outside. Don’t miss the views outside on the bridge!
