Day Trip to Amalfi & Positano
During our trip to Rome we decided to head south and visit the beautiful
Amalfi Coast I’ve heard so many people gush about. We did a Day Trip with City Wonders to Amalfi & Positano in one day from Rome. Here’s what to expect on your tour and what to do and see in both towns.
Though our tour with City Wonders was complimentary, all photos and opinions in this article are my own.
City Wonders
City Wonders is a great tour company that offers tours and day trips in a ton of European cities including London, Paris, Rome, Barcelona and more! On our trip to Rome we did two different tours with City Wonders. I loved the Amalfi & Positano tour because it gave us a small taste of each city so we could see which one we preferred to come back to and visit more extensively on another trip.

Our tour guide Angela was so fun and helpful! She gave us lots of recommendations for things to do and places to eat in both cities. We took a nice air conditioned bus with charging ports down to Salerno where we got on the ferry to travel to both Amalfi and Positano. You will have a restroom and food stop half way to Salerno.
Positano
Our first stop was Positano, which was my personal favorite. We had about two and a half hours are to eat lunch and explore. I suggest grabbing something quick to maximize your time in Positano, but since we were celebrating my birthday we sat down at a restaurant.
Rada Beach Club & Restaurant
Angela recommended Rada Beach Restaurant for the best view of Positano and I agree with her! We sat beachside with an amazing view of the beach, water, and buildings on the cliff. The upper level is a rooftop club in the evening. It offers the most gorgeous photo spot though so we snuck upstairs to snap some photos after a bathroom break. The employees did not seem to mind.
Anywhere you decided to eat in Positano the prices are going to be a bit higher. Our food at Rada was delicious and with the view that money was worth it to us!
After lunch we strolled through the streets of Positano and went into some shops for a little while. It’s like a maze of alleys and there’s something new around every corner. To me, it was like the Mykonos of Italy.
Italian leather sandals can be made for you while you wait in just fifteen minutes!
I adored all of the hand painted pottery in the shops.
While I was shopping Travis and Aurora headed to the beach for a quick swim. Just a note, majority of the beach in Positano is privately owned by Beach Clubs. So if you want to enter into that area you will need to pay a pricey fee per person which will get you a beach umbrella and chair for the day. Some have bars by the rentals as well. There is a very small (and crowded) slice of free beach right beside the port.
We hopped back on the ferry to head over to Amalfi! We had about an hour and a half in Amalfi to explore.
City Wonders offers you a free limoncello tasting here in Amalfi at one of the local shops. It only takes about 5-10 minutes but is totally optional.
Amalfi Cathedral
Don’t miss the opportunity to go inside the cathedral! You can’t miss it as it is the highest building in the town. There is a small fee to enter.
One if the oldest building in Amalfi, the cathedral has some beautiful paintings, sculptures, and reliquaries.
A popular snack is anything with lemon! The Amalfi coast is known for their massive lemons so you can find a ton of lemon flavored foods. I love lemon so we got some gelato in a lemon.
Before hopping on the ferry back to Salerno we grabbed a seafood cone. It was the perfect assorted fried seafood for on the go. We had a fabulous day trip down to Amalfi from Rome! While I wish we had more time in each place it is a great way to get an idea of the towns and decide whether or not you’d like to visit again in the future.
