Things to do in Historic Downtown Chehalis

Chehalis is a pretty small town but it has a lot of charm. We drove over to check out the downtown area one afternoon. Only about 45 minutes from Joint Base Lewis-McChord, its a great day trip!

We just walked around on our own but if you need a map there are two posted downtown with businesses listed.

The first store we popped in was Gifted. They carry a ton of Hallmark merchandise so there is a huge selection of gift items, cards, etc.

Since we left Muffin at home I felt the need to grab him a little treat! We went inside Totally Pawsome to grab him one. They have a great selection of food and treats. She also gave us a little baggy of sample treats at checkout.

If knitting is your thing then Chehalis is the place for you! There are not one but two quilt/fabric stores here. Both had an extensive selection of fabrics and notions.

I was super bummed they were already closed but there is the cutest cafe and yarn shop! They make the yarn with the goats hair and the cafe part offers cheese!

We’ll have to go back and visit when the cafe is open, because the cheese looked really good!

There is plenty of free street parking but walk down to the public parking lot at the end of the street to check out the murals! This farmers market mural is painted on the public restrooms.

On the other side of the restrooms, painted on the building, is this huge mural. It has little excerpts about the crown of Chehalis and how it was founded.

Smith’s Mercantile was another cute gift shop we walked in. Literally so many items to choose from.

Bartell’s is the place to go if you need outdoor clothing. As in, Northface, Columbia, and all the great hiking shoe brands.

They have the cutest historical theater downtown. I loved the mint green and oldie vibes.

Another awesome mural to check out, this one can be found by the optical shop.

Before heading home we decided to grab dinner at Sweet Inspirations Restaurant. This one was recommended to us by one of the shop owners.

This place is the closest thing to Cracker Barrell (since they basically don’t exist in WA). Home cooked comfort food and desserts. They even have a soda fountain bar you can grab milkshakes at.

I ordered the quiche, which was delicious. We also had to get dessert so we tried the Berry Cobbler al a mode style. So yummy!
