St. Michael’s Mount Castle
St. Michaels’ Mount is my favorite castle we have visited so far. This beautiful castle is on an island off the southern coast of England. Here is what to know before your visit!

St. Michael’s Mount
National Trust Site
St. Michaels Mount is owned by National Trust. If you are a member then you can book tickets for FREE entry into the castle. National Trust owns hundreds of sites across England and in my opinion, the membership is worth it. You will need to book your tickets online before your visit. Tickets run from 14-26 pounds per person. You can buy a ticket to the gardens, a ticket to the castle, or a combination ticket for entry into both.

You will need to decide how to get to the castle as well. You can either walk to the castle during low tide OR take a boat. I highly recommend doing both so you can get the full experience. e bought tickets for morning entry so we took the boats there. On the way back it was low tide and the walkway is open so we walked. Boat tickets will also need to be purchased online ahead of time and are separate from your entry tickets. Boat tickets are very inexpensive at less than 3 pounds per person. There is a discount if you are a National Trust member but boat tickets are not free for members.

Depending on the time of year that you visit, your boat will depart from one of three ports. The port names are on signs like this in the town of Marazion off the main road.

The boat ride is less than five minutes are really is the best view of the castle!
Once you arrive on the island there is an exhibit, two small shops, a cafe, restaurant, restrooms, gallery, and of the course the castle and gardens.
The two gift shops offer souvenirs, snacks, guide books, etc.
The cobblestone paths on the island are really uneven. I highly suggest wearing flat shoes for your visit.
If you have kids with you, make sure to grab them a scavenger hunt sheet at the bottom of the walkway up to the castle.
You can go inside the castle and walk through some of the rooms and the chapel. The castle is still privately owned by the family, and they currently live in it.
There are no audio guides but there is a QR code you can scan with your smartphone to listen about some of the rooms from the website.
After our walk inside the castle we had afternoon tea at the Harbour Loft. This is the sit down restaurant on the island. I advise making a reservation online before your visit if you want to eat here.
Read about afternoon tea on the website HERE.
Afternoon tea was very unique and we had a fantastic view of the harbor. We watched as the tide went down and people waited to cross the walkway.
If you do not want to have afternoon tea there is also a cafe and an ice cream truck on the island. You could also bring a nice picnic to enjoy.

After tea we went inside the exhibit. It is very small but has some history of the island and old photos.
As I mentioned before, at low tide the path to and from the island is open, so walked back to Marion in the afternoon. These cobblestones are also very uneven, wet and slippery, so use caution!
