Springtime Cruise on South Lake Tahoe
I’m not sure I would consider Spring a season in South Lake Tahoe. I think it should be called second winter because dang it was freezing. I’m talking beginning of April when flowers are suppose to be blooming and it was in the thirties. I guess that’s why they have a ski resort. So basically, make sure you dress for winter when you visit, if it’s not dead summer. South Lake Tahoe is absolutely breathtaking. The views and the cold wind. We ended up here quite unexpectedly as we were suppose to be driving through the California coastline, not Nevada. So while we stayed in Reno, we made the hour drive down to South Lake Tahoe for the day.
We started out at The Shops at Heavenly Village because hello, shopping. This is also where the ski resort is. If we had had our ski gear (it was packed up in our household goods with the movers) and an extra day, I would’ve loved to try out this resort. It’s a really nice area with multiple hotels.

We grabbed lunch at Creative Crepes and holy cow was it good. I got the pizza crepe to share with Aurora. Their menu is extensive with all different types of savory and sweet crepes. We also had to get a dessert crepe, naturally, and we decided on the Nutella banana.
The restaurant also had tons of local artists artwork for sale. We loved a local artist that had painted landscapes of Lake Tahoe on tree trunk cuts.
There were tons of restaurants and honestly all of them sounded amazing. We had a short time limit so we didn’t have time to wait (most had 20-45 minute wait times). We headed out to Zephyr Cove Resort for a daytime river boat cruise on the lake.
Tickets were pretty pricey at $65 per adult and $35 per child. However, they had a special going on that if you called and booked over the phone, children were free with paying adult. South Lake Tahoe is not busy in the Winter/Spring. Their main tourist time money maker is summer.
We did not have to wait in line and it was not crowded on the boat. There were plenty of seats available inside and outside but I’m sure in the summer it’s jam packed. There are three decks on the boat, restrooms, a gift shop, and a restaurant with a bar. We got hot cocoa and French fries, but there is a full menu on-board. Throughout the cruise they will give you a little bit of the history of Lake Tahoe.
When you get get close to the coastline they will point out birds and wildlife to see. Apparently there was an eagle on a tree top but I couldn’t figure out which one of the thousand trees he was referring to. Aurora kept a lookout.
The cruise on Lake Tahoe is an hour and a half. If I’m being honest, I took a nap. The sights are gorgeous, don’t get me wrong. I was tired from our trip and after we got photos it was mission accomplished so I took a snooze. It does get a bit boring after you’ve seen everything. This same resort also offers sunset dinner cruises and I think that would’ve been more up my alley.
Side note, if you are driving into Lake Tahoe, make sure you get gas before you get there. It was a whopping $3.89 per gallon. I hope one day we will be able to visit here in the summer when I can lay out in a bikini, but for now I’m glad I was able to see it at least once. Bucket list, check.
