Mount Ellinor Trail
Mount Ellinor trail is one of the hardest trails I’ve ever done. Not for the faint of heart, its views are rumored to be the prettiest in Washington. Unfortunate for us it was cloudy the day we went but it was still pretty. Here is info about the hike and what you need to know before you go.
Mount Ellinor Trail via Upper Trailhead
4 Miles Round trip, HARD
Dog Friendly
America the Beautiful Pass Required
Yall, this trail is HARD. We did take Aurora (7 years old) and she was able to do it with minimal piggy back rides but all of us wanted to give up quite a few times. The beginning of the trail is wooded and more like moderate but once you get into the rocky part it is straight up. The rocks are also very slippery. Plan for lots of water breaks and make sure to pack plenty of food/snacks.
An America the Beautiful Pass is required for this hike. This pass is FREE for military but you must obtain it before reaching the hiking area at a ranger station. For more info on the pass and locations to get it, click HERE.
Also important for me to note, there are multiple places that you can start this trail. The part we started at was Upper Trailhead, which makes the hike only 4 miles. There is another trailhead further away for 6 miles and a third trailhead for 10 miles.
The trail is pretty dusty/dirty so be prepared for it to kick up in your face if you’re behind someone.
We went early morning on a day in July and I couldn’t believe how many sleeping bumble bees there were.
Unfortunately when we went it was foggy almost the entire time. We didn’t get that gorgeous view at the top but the hike was still really pretty.
These pheasants were all over the fields just walking around eating.
The chipmunks at the top were basically eating out of our hands! Our dog Muffin wanted one so bad because they were squeaking like a toy.
As I mentioned it was very foggy. This is the best view we got, a little bit of clearing through the clouds.
Finding the fun everywhere life takes us!
