MoPop: Museum of Pop Culture Seattle

The Museum of Pop Culture (better known as MoPop) is one of my favorite museums to visit in Seattle. We visited again recently for the new addition of the Disney Heroes & Villains Exhibit. Here’s what you need to know before visiting and info on the exhibits.

MoPop is open Thursday through Tuesdays 10am – 5pm. Tickets to the museum range from $25-30 per person. The current special exhibit is Disney’s Heroes & Villains and does cost extra on top of the regular museum admission. Ticket prices for the regular museum and special exhibit range from $30-37 per person. A Military discount is available on site but not online. Tickets are encouraged to be purchased ahead online before your visit.

At this time MoPop is operating under King County’s new COVID mandate: All persons age 12+ are required to show proof of a negative COVID test or Vaccine card prior to entry. Masks must be worn in the museum as well.

I’m a huge Disney fan so when I heard about this new exhibit we had to go! It is filled with costumes used in Disney movies through the ages as well as props, sketches of the animation and costume design process, and more. We really enjoyed it.

We saw costumes and props from movies like Cinderella, Beauty and the Beast, Hocus Pocus, The Nutcracker, Mary Poppins, Pirates of the Caribbean and more.

I think the most iconic display in MoPop is the guitar tower. Its actually more like a guitar shaped tornado. It spans well over twenty feet high and features tons of musical instruments.

One thing that stands out about MoPop is that most of the exhibits are immersive. When you step inside you will feel as though you’ve stepped into another world. The Fantasy Exhibit is like that. When you walk through the giant wood door it will feel like you are inside an enchanted forest.

In the Fantasy Exhibit you can find things like a giant throne to sit in, and costumes/props from movies like Harry Potter, Wizard of Oz, Lord of the Rings, and more.

Pearl Jam is a well known Seattle native band and MoPop has given them an entire exhibit. This is one of the newer exhibits to MoPop. Here you can find tons of memorabilia and info about the band.

The Scared to Death exhibit is actually rated PG-13 and not suitable for children. I do not advise taking your kids through here. There are hanging bodies, body parts, scary costumes from movies, and more inside this exhibit. The Scared to Death exhibit is about Horror Movies and the phenomena of people who like to watch scary movies and why. You can find costumes and props from movies like Halloween, Jason, and rooms based on vampires, zombies, and more.

The Sci-Fi Exhibit explores movies about aliens, other worlds and more. You can find costumes and props from movies like Star Trek, X-Men, Terminator, and Back to the Future.
