Kilauea Military Camp Hotel
The Kilauea Military Camp is located inside Hawaii Volcanoes National Park and is open for anyone military affiliated to book. We stayed for three nights when we visited the Big Island of Hawaii. Here is what to expect during your stay at the KMC.
Kilauea Military Camp
We booked the hotel as soon as we knew our stay dates. You can book online or over the phone. The camp has accommodations for any size family. Rates are based on your military rank. My husband was an E4 at the time of our stay, so our rate was less than $100 per night.

Check in was a breeze and you can’t beat this central location to everything inside Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. We stayed in one of the small cottages but it was perfect for us.
Our cottage had a fireplace, living room with a couch, bathroom and bedroom. Each room also has a microwave and mini fridge.
There are quite a few amenities on site to enjoy during you stay. I will admit our schedule was too packed to check out any of them, but I wish we would’ve had the time to. On site they have a General Store, Game Room, a Fitness Center/gym, a Post Office, a Bowling Alley, a Gas Station, and a few restaurants to choose from.
Read about all of the amenities on KMC’s website HERE and the sport’s & wellness facilities HERE.
I briefly stepped into the General Store one night. They have plenty of groceries, some souvenir items, and things you may find yourself in need of if you forgot something. They have quite a bit of food for microwaving in your room. The day we arrived we got there after all of the restaurants had closed, so microwave meal it was for dinner.
There are several places to get food at the KMC and at the other lodge inside the park. At the KMC you can grab food at the Crater Rim Cafe, 10-Pin Grill (inside the bowling alley), Java Cafe (coffee shop), and the Lava Lounge. The Lava Lounge offers live music every Friday and Saturday which I wish we would’ve been able to see.
The Volcano House is less than a five minute drive from the KMC and is the other lodge inside the park. They also have several dining options. We ordered for pick up one night from The Rim restaurant and it was delicious. They do offer a kids menu. I suggest the Ono it is a local Hawaiian fish and was delicious. If you want to dine in, make reservations ahead of time by calling or emailing the restaurant.
The only other thing we wanted, but didn’t get at the KMC was a pool. It can get pretty hot during the day and it would have been nice to be able to jump in the pool to cool off. Overall we had a great stay and I would highly recommend it to anyone with access to book here. It is by far the best bang for your buck on lodging inside the National Park!
