Exploring Snaefellsnes Peninsula with EastWest Tours
When we booked our flights to Iceland I immediately started researching the best things to see and do on our short five day trip. The top place suggested to me by friends and family that have visited Iceland was the Snaefellsnes Peninsula. So naturally it was the very first tour I booked for our trip! I was so excited to work with EastWest Iceland for this tour and explore one of the most beautiful peninsulas on Iceland.
Though my tour was gifted by EastWest Iceland, all photos and opinions in this article are my own.

Snaefellsnes Peninsula with EastWest Iceland
Offered in both public and private tours, this tour is available to book year round. Avoid the hassle of driving in Iceland’s unpredictable weather and sit back to enjoy Iceland with an experienced guide. We did the public tour, which is a small group only up to nineteen people.

Our eleven hour tour was in a comfortable Mercedes sprinter van com plate with WiFi and charging ports.

Ytri-Tunga
Our first stop was a beautiful beach on the coast with tide pools. Though we didn’t find much sea life, the beach was full of interesting plants and even a few seals enjoying the rocks. Our guide told us that during the summer months there is lots of sea life in the tide pools, it was just a bit too cold when we visited.

Búðakirkja
One of the most photographed churches in Iceland, this quick stop was to explore and snap some photos in this beautiful landscape.

Lýsuhóll Horse Farm
Our lunch stop was Aurora’s favorite! We stopped at a Horse Farm to eat lunch, which is included in the cost of your tour. We were treated to a family’s home cooked meal with multiple Icelandic specialities. It was one of the best meals we ate on our trip, everything was delicious. Locally caught fish, locally grown potatoes, bread, lamb sausage, rice, curry and salad. It was an all you can eat buffet.

After lunch we had an opportunity to pet the Icelandic horses on the farm. These horse are incredibly strong and one of the purest horse breeds in the world. Tourist’s often stop on the side of the road to pet and feed the horses but this is illegal. It is illegal to pet an Icelandic horse without the owner’s permission. That’s why we really loved the opportunity to pet them on our tour.

The horses were sweet and spunky, and like to play and groom each other.

The Coast of Arnarstapi
After lunch we took a short hike around the coast of Arnarstapi. There were so many beautiful cliffs and sea birds. Also my favorite view of the day, this gorgeous mountain reflected in thee lake below it.

Djúpalónssandur Black Sand Beach
It is really unique to see a black sand beach, as they are few and far between. It is made of large smooth rocks, but smaller ground pieces closer to shore and closer to the land. It was a beautiful coastline and the sounds of the waves crashing were so tranquil.

Kirkjufell Mountain
EastWest saved the best for last, our stop at Kirkjufell was my favorite of the day. This beautiful mountain has been the backdrop of many shows and movies, including Game of Thrones. This view has waterfalls, a gorgeous coast, and a snow covered mountain. A short walk will take you to this amazing view.

Kirkjufell was known as “Arrowhead Mountain” in the Game of Thrones series on HBO.

Berserkjahraun Lava Fields
On the drive back to Reykjavik you will pass through the lava fields and fjords, and hear Icelandic tales and legends about the area. It was a breathtaking view from the van.

EastWest Iceland
We had the best experience with EastWest Tours, on the multiple days we toured with them. They made the tour hassle free, enjoyable, and our guide was fantastic. You can use code EWOLIVIA10 for 10% off any tour with them on your trip to Iceland!
