Cooking Class in Rome with Local Aromas
We decided to try something new on our trip to Rome, an activity we had never done on a vacation before! We booked a cooking class with Local Aromas and tried our hand at making some classic Italian dishes. Here’s what to expect doing a cooking class with Local Aromas.
Though our cooking class with Local Aromas was complimentary, all opinions and photos in this article are my own.
Local Aromas
Local Aromas has an extensive list of experiences and tours throughout Italy! Local Aromas has cooking classes, food tours, wine tours, and fully immersive retreats in multiple cities throughout Italy. We are huge foodies (and I have a Culinary minor) so we usually do food tours everywhere we go but this time we decided to do a cooking class for something new!

Chef’s House
Our cooking class was a private class at the home of the chef. It was absolutely beautiful! Transportation is not included but it was easy to travel to on public transportation or an Uber/taxi. Her home was about thirty minutes outside of Rome.
Dish #1: Tiramisu
We put on some aprons, washed our hands, and got to work preparing desert first (my fave)! Tiramisu needs to sit for a few hours so started putting ingredients together. Aurora is 11 and absolutely loved the cooking class.
Aperitif Break
Next we had a fifteen minute aperitif break. Aperitif is essential in Italian life, so we got to enjoy wine, cheese, salami, and bruschetta in the back yard.
Dish #2: Gnocchi
One of my favorite dishes is gnocchi so I was ecstatic to learn how to make it. Gnocchi is like a noddle but it is actually made out of potatoes. You can also use other foods to make gnocchi like squash. We watched the chef demonstrate then got to get our hands dirty creating the perfect texture.
The technique of rolling the gnocchi is the hardest part! This handy little tool is yours to keep after the class.
Dish #3: Pasta
Pasta is a fun dish to craft and requires getting your hands nice and “dirty”. Pasta making is definitely a process but we had fun crafting it.
Finished Product
After we concluded our part of the cooking class we got to go outside and enjoy another glass of wine. While we waited for the chef to put together all of our home made ingredients into beautiful Italian dishes we got to chat with the owners of Local Aromas. Benedetta and Valeria have such a passion for food, cooking, and sharing their love for both with others.
My personal favorite dish of the evening was the Cacio e Pepe. Made the noodles we crafted, pork belly, and pecorino cheese, it was the most delicious pasta I tasted during our trip to Italy.
We had the most amazing time cooking and dining with Local Aromas! Check out all of their experiences they have to offer on your next trip to Italy.
