A Guide to Cornwall for Poldark Fans

My husband and I loved watching Poldark together when it was on TV. Still one of my all time favorite shows, I have watched it through twice. When we moved to England we couldn’t wait to explore filming locations of one of our favorite shows. Here are some of the most iconic spots in the series and where to find them.

Poldark
Holywell Bay

Dog Friendly
Holywell Bay is an amazingly pretty beach on the English coast. Quite a few Poldark scenes and promo photoshoots were filmed here. The parking lot is owned by National Trust so if you are a member, it is FREE. If you are not a member then it is a small fee for parking. There are beach caves here to explore (you will definitely need a flashlight) and this area is dog friendly.

Kynance Cove

Kynance Cove

Dog Friendly
Probably my favorite Poldark filming location, Kynance Cove is breathtaking. This parking lot is also owned by National Trust. There are multiple walking paths and they lead down to the cove. Alternatively I think there is also parking at the small Cafe/Inn at the cove. I wish it had been a nice hot day so we could’ve swam because the water looks incredible here. You will recognize the landscape from filming photos and horseback riding scenes. This is also where Ross was filmed being escorted to Bodmin Jail at the end of season two.

Wheal Coates

Wheal Coates & St. Agnes Head
National Trust Site
Dog Friendly
The parking lots for Wheal Coates and St.Agnes Head are within five minutes of each other. The trails between the two also connect. These are two major filming spots for Poldark as well as major historical sites for the tin mining history of England. You can actually walk inside some of the old mines and the sweeping coastal views are absolutely beautiful. We walked down the coastal path to Chapel Porth Beach where there is a small cafe to grab ice cream. There is also a very small parking lot at Chapel Porth. So if one parking lot is full you can drive down to the next one and be able to walk between the sites. All three of these sites are owned by National Trust and there is a small charge for parking.

There were a few Poldark filming sites that we did not have time to make it to, I’ve listed them below with links so you can check them out:

Charelstown UK

Charleston
This World Heritage Site was developed in the late 18th century and stands in for Truro and Falmouth in the series. You’ll recognize it from the many port scenes.

Porthgwarra

Porthgwarra
This secluded cove has crystal clear waters and stands in for Nampara Cove in the show. This is also where the famous scene of Demelza staring at Ross skinny dipping was filmed.

Bodmin Moor is where the exterior cottages of Nampara as well as Dwight Ennis’ homes were filmed.

Penberth cove

Penberth Cove
This cove is located south of the town of Penzance and is a small fishing hamlet where many of the villager’s scenes were filmed. This is the village in the show where Drake and Morwenna live.

Another beautiful Cornwall beach, this one was often used for Nampara Cove in filming.
