Byodo-In Temple
The Byodo-In Temple is one of my favorite places to visit on Oahu. So much so that we visit on every trip. It is by far one of the prettiest places on the island and feels like a different country.
Byodo-In Temple
Valley of the Temples Memorial Park
Kahaluu, Oahu, Hawaii
Open daily 8:30am – 5:00pm
The Valley of the temples has several temples and a large cemetery. This valley is below some gorgeous Hawaiian mountains and truly feel like you are in Japan upon entering. Entry into the Byodo-In Temple costs $5 per adult and $2 per child. As of 2021 they are requiring masks and temperature checks upon entry. Parking is available down by the temple or street parking along the road.

The grounds are quiet and tranquil. Please be courteous of other visitors.
Photos don’t do the temple justice. It is absolutely breathtaking.
There is a gong to the left of the temple which you can take a turn at ringing. Aurora loves to try it and make it ring the loudest.
There are some koi fish food dispensers around the grounds. For a quarter you can feed the fish.
If you would like to walk inside the temple you will need to remove your shoes before entering. This is an ancient tradition.
The grounds make for gorgeous photos. I especially love the patch of bamboo to the right after exiting the temple.
